Position Summary
Provide patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Medical Center. This position will be primarily providing support to our Small Animal Emergency Service; Instructing and demonstrating techniques to students; assists students, veterinary nurses, and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of hospital areas. Additional Nurse II duties include, hiring, onboarding, and training of student hires. Maintain schedules, ordering supplies and stocking the Cubex unit. Skills you will develop and utilize include emergency triage, patient stabilization, nursing care, knowledge of setup and assisting with emergency procedures. With four Boarded Critical Care Specialized Veterinarians and two Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialists, we support and assist in your career development.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in patient care, surgery, drug dosing and sterilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan, or attainment of such certification within one year of date of employment.

Previous experience as a Veterinary Nurse II.

Summary of Physical Demands
The veterinary technician will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam
tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals;
preparing for medical procedures and treatments. Lift animals up to 50lbs individually and up to 150lbs as a team.
Summary of Health Risks
Working with animals or unfixed tissue. May wear respirator. Possible exposure to zoonotic diseases.
