Collections Clerk

Position Summary

Starting hourly rate is $18.50 - $22.64 commensurate with experience. MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; Not eligible for remote work schedule. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. 

This position will provide administrative support including routing and dispatching, data entry, preparing documents and reports, maintaining inventory records, responding to customers via telephone and email, developing and maintaining training materials, and assisting with tours. 

Job responsibilities are as follows:  
30%: Data Entry and Reporting
• Collect and input Collections data, ensuring accuracy. 
• Communicate with staff to gather missing data. 
• Respond to requests for information and data. 
• Compile data to create reports. 
• Create and maintain container inventory reports, including condition assessments.

30%: Dispatching
• Assist Collections Supervisor with maintaining daily collection routes and needs.
• Assist with assigning collection work assignments. 
• Run daily resolution reports of previous days completed assignments. 

20%: Customer Service
• Respond to and resolve customer inquiries. 
• Route inquires to appropriate staff member. 
• Record, track, and report on customer service issues. 

20%: Additional Duties
• Provide general office support.
• Assist with other department data activities. 
• Assist with organization of training materials and employee records. 
• Develop and maintain training materials.
• Assist with tours.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in maintaining accurate records, data entry, word processing, typing and/or balancing cash receipts; knowledge of collections or routing software and/or dispatching; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Experience in the waste or recycling industry 

A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.
