Human Resources Business Partner
Position Summary
The Office of Research and Innovation (OR&I) is a Major Administrative Unit (MAU) with more than 500 employees who support MSUs research and creative activity by administering research funding, ensuring research integrity for both faculty and students, providing grant support services, fostering collaboration, licensing university inventions, and overseeingregulatory compliance. This position serves as the primary human resource contact for assigned centers/institutes within the MAU, partnering with the MAU HR Manager to ensure consistency and best practice implementation within a shared services model. The position will oversee talent acquisition, performance management, staffing updates, disciplinary actions, and all HR-related functions for assigned centers/institutes.
Duties will include:
Works with HR Manager to create a recruitment plan and pipeline for open positions within the MAU. Creates onboarding plans and participates in educating newly hired employees on HR policies, MAU policies, university policies, and internal procedures and regulations. Consulting with Human Resources Manager on unit performance, organizational and leadership matters. Managing the performance appraisal and feedback programs; coaching Managers on performance review process and appropriate feedback, language, and documentation. Develop and conduct training to instruct supervisors, and employees; includes training on supervisory skills, interpersonal communication skills, and effective group interaction skills. Develop and implement efficient HR documentation and processes, building in an assessment/review component as well as continuously improving upon processes based on feedback. Using measurement concepts, data collection and analysis, and reporting tools in order to assist OR&I through analytics and track progress to reach unit goals. Fosters a culture of equity, inclusion and diversity within the organization. Oversees, administers and coordinates the hiring processes and the processing of all personnel actions for the unit. Supervise the work of the Human Resources Coordinator and serve as backup for processing in the event of their absence.
The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually. This position will require a minimum of two days per week on-site in East Lansing, MI.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or a field related to the employing unit; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing human resource functions, designing and implementing training programs and human resource/labor relations management and computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
