Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

In alignment with the mission, programs and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support and coordination of MSU Extension programs.

Michigan State University Extension has been awarded a one-year grant from the Office of Highway Planning and Safety to educate youth in Wayne County on seatbelt safety and the dangers of distracted driving. As part of this initiative, the Wayne County 4-H program is hiring two Temporary On-call positions to support the project.

 

Position Summary: Temporary $27.00 an hour X 26 hours per week. End date 9/30/2025

Position 1:

 In this role, you will plan, implement, and deliver direct programming for youth audiences, focusing on safety belt use and distracted driving awareness. Programs will be offered in-person and/or virtually, through after-school initiatives, short-term/special interest programs, and school enrichment efforts. You will also engage in outreach during community events such as fairs, festivals, etc.

 

Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Wayne County MSU Extension 4-H team, you will support program promotion, expansion, and evaluation, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences, while promoting equitable access to programming.
  • A key aspect of this position includes building and maintaining partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance program reach and impact.
  • You will also create educational handouts and materials to supplement programming, ensuring that resources are accessible and informative for both youth and community members.
  • Create and contribute to MSU Extension’s social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, and X, by posting weekly to showcase 4-H Safety Belt Programming.
  • Administrative responsibilities include preparing and submitting program information, evaluations, and documentation in alignment with MSU Extension policies and deadlines.
  • You will provide learning opportunities using accessible technology, media platforms, group meetings, workshops, and individual interactions, while operating with a degree of independence to ensure program goals are met and delivery aligns with established guidelines.
  • Additional duties or projects may be assigned by your supervisor as needed.

 

 

 

Position 2 Summary: Temporary  $23.00 an hour X 26 hours per week. End date 9/30/2025

Flexible work environment:

 This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible/remote work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from MSU Extension Wayne County office. The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work-location flexibility.

 

 

 

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one years of experience in youth and/or program development and management.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
  • Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to diverse audiences/communities and proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.
  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
