Position Summary
The Cannabis Legalization in Michigan (CALM) research team is hiring a Research Assistant to assist with recruitment and data collection for our CALM-cardiovascular disease (CVD) study. CALM-CVD is a prospective study investigating the cardiovascular health effects of cannabis use. As a key member of the research team, the Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator. The Research Assistant will have phlebotomy training and experience and should maintain excellent interpersonal skills with all participants of our study.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:
- Identify eligible patients with assistance from clinical staff
- Incorporate the study protocol into the clinical flow without disrupting clinical care
- Introduce the study to patients and consent participants into the study
- Driving/traveling throughout the Greater Lansing Area to conduct participant interviews and collect data
- Collect survey data using Qualtrics
- Collect, process, and transport biospecimens (urine and blood)
- Update multiple database systems
- Enter data into the study database systems
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires phlebotomy licensing or certification and a valid driver license in the state of Michigan at the time of hire.
Desired Qualifications
Phlebotomy experience preferred. Experience working with patients. Experience with medical terminology. Experience with medical research. Experience with Qualtrics.
