Associate Chair for Academic Affairs
Position Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for an Associate Chair for Academic Affairs located in Grand Rapids who will hold a rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
Responsibilities:
- Serve on the Executive Committee (per bylaws, requires non-prefixed appointment)
- Serve as the Lead LCE EM Clerkship Director and Chair of the Undergraduate Committee.
- Provide oversight and direction to the LCE EM Clerkship Directors in regard to the evaluation of student performance and the process of writing standardized letters of evaluation.
- Ensure that the LCE EM curriculum is consistent and the experience comparable among all sites.
- Review the LCE EM components of the curriculum at least annually, taking into consideration student evaluations, faculty feedback, and assessment of available resources to make updates as needed.
- Provide guidance to the MCE EM Directors for both the Grand Rapids and Lansing campuses.
- Serve on relevant CHM committees that relate to integration of acute care principles into the undergraduate curriculum.
- Serve as the lead EM career advisor by assisting with advisor-student assignments.
- Lead the annual nomination and selection process for student EM awards.
- Provide guidance to the Emergency Medicine Interest Groups (EMIG).

- Maintain academic credentials for non-tenure track at MSU College of Human Medicine, Department of EM.
- Exhibit ability to interact and collaborate with students, residents, faculty, and senior management in a constructive and productive manner for the enhancement of undergraduate medical education.
- Exhibit professional standards of ethical behavior and serve as a role model.
- Devote sufficient time to the Department to fulfill administrative, supervisory, and teaching responsibilities.

Required Degree
Doctorate -MD or DO
Minimum Requirements
- Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Michigan.
- Certification in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or American Board of Pediatrics.
- American Board of Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated and documented experience in undergraduate medical education.
- Active clinician and experienced educational administrator.
