Virtual Systems Engineer
Position Summary
The Virtual Systems Team serves as a workforce multiplier, enhancing organizational efficiency by delivering cost-effective services that reduce the expense of deploying and maintaining systems and applications. These essential services support daily operations by providing economies of scale that minimize the Data Center footprint, lower environmental impact, increase flexibility, and offer efficient solutions. The team also manages the operational support of on-premises and off-premises infrastructure, leveraging VMware, AWS, Azure and GCP to deliver compute resources to the MSU community.
Reporting to the Virtual Systems Manager, the Virtual Systems Engineer will primarily perform the following duties:
- Design, implement, and manage virtualized system environments and cloud infrastructure.
- Support customers to build solutions designed to fit their needs.
- Work with vendors to anticipate and resolve complex problems.
- Develop scripts for automation, productivity improvements, and performance optimization.
- Monitor system health and proactively issue resolution for issues.
- Generate scripted system reports for platform data requests.
- Updating billing and ticketing systems.
- Participate in organization and intra-team projects.
- Engage in professional development including technical training and "soft skill" development.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in IT Support or Systems Administration; experience with VMware and associated tools; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
- In-depth understanding of virtualization technologies, enterprise compute infrastructure and a strong operational understanding block systems storage
- Experience administering systems in cloud platforms
- Two or more years’ experience providing direct customer support
