Position Summary
Join the dynamic Infrastructure Planning and Facilities Custodial team and help support MSU's mission of advancing knowledge and transforming lives! You'll use top cleaning methods, equipment, and standards in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment, ensuring MSU's facilities remain clean, safe, and beautiful. This position is located in the 1407 S. Harrison Rd. building, working Monday - Friday: 5am - 1:30pm. May be required to work after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
Pay Rate: $21.97 - $23.13 upon meeting probationary period requirements. This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular, in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.
This position will perform and oversee cleaning, maintenance and security activities while leading a group of custodians in an assigned building(s). Position implements energy conservation methods, maintains security by locking and unlocking buildings, reports electrical, plumbing or mechanical failures as needed. Follows safety regulations in an assigned area which involves lifting (25 lbs. to 50 lbs.), occasional heavy lifting (50 lbs. to 75 lbs.); climbing ladders and stairs: overhead reaching; operating heavy cleaning equipment, (i.e. automatic scrub machine, buffer, extractor, etc); frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping; considerable walking and standing. Must have ability to understand and give verbal or written instruction; read chemical, biological, or radioactive warning signs; wear a respirator; remove snow with shovel or snow blower; retain training information required for custodial methods, equipment and products; work with student employees and be able to communicate and interact with the University community; serve as a liaison with the Department of Public Safety; maintain product inventory; make independent decisions to accomplish acceptable cleaning standards using appropriate methods, products and equipment; work inside or outside; sometimes exposed to harsh weather; work alone in vacated building, submit verbal or written reports as directed.
The breakdown of responsibilities is as follows:
35%: Perform or oversee light duty, vacuum, restroom and utility specialist high performance cleaning functions.
30%: Plan, assign, instruct and check the work of assigned support employees and adherence to process; assess the cleanliness and prioritize the cleaning tasks for assigned space.
20%: Perform or oversee the performance of stripping, scrubbing, refinishing, and sealing of resilient floor surfaces.
15%: Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development. Assist in the training of new support employees.

Minimum Requirements
- High school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
- Expert knowledge of heavy mechanical power cleaning and scrubbing equipment.
- Expert knowledge of MSU Custodial Services' professional cleaning methods and materials.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, accompany, and oversee work assignment of support employees.
- Two years of satisfactory experience as a Custodian II with possession of MSU custodial cleaning competencies certification prior to completion of six months from time of placement, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Steady lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and frequent lifting of over 75 pounds.
- This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in maintaining and refinishing wood floors, doing health care facility cleaning, and basic equipment repair; ability to be respirator certified for use of special finishes or seals
