Position Summary
Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Anesthesia unit of the Veterinary Medical Center. This position works in both the Large and Small Animal clinics. This position will be utilized for their technical/nursing abilities including but not limited to performing all aspects of anesthetizing patients (premedication, induction, anesthetic maintenance/monitoring, recovery), conscious sedation, pre and post operative patient care, analgesia, venipuncture, IVC placement, and much more on a wide variety of small and large animal patients. Other working responsibilities include instructing and demonstrating techniques to students and assisting clinicians, while also maintaining supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the anesthesia hospital areas. If necessary, may join the rotation schedule for overnight/weekends in our support center.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology/Nursing. Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, emergency/critical care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterile techniques. Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting.
Experience in Electronic Medical Records software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Summary of Physical Demands
The veterinary technician/nurse will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments. Lift animals up to 50lbs individually and up to 150lbs as a team.
