The Office of the Controller seeks an experienced and motivated Analyst to join the Finance Business Application Support team in their mission to provide top quality service and support to the University’s Financial Business applications.
The Business Analyst assists in managing projects and system maintenance of a specialized department within the Office of the Controller (CO). Assists in identifying and interpreting newly defined requirements of financial and information systems, and participates in the maintenance, upgrade, and improvement of the systems.
Responsible for data and process integrity, the Business Applications Analyst provides system and process expertise for departments, both within the CO and campus-wide, regarding finance system related needs.

This position is "remote-friendly", with the expectation of on-campus presence periodically. This is typically referred to as "Hybrid", with the flexibility of regular remote work mixed with in-office work as mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.
Responsibilities
Operations Functions (55%) - support for ongoing or recurring tasks that support both end user and central offices on behalf of the Finance and other CO systems:
- Responsible for finance related testing, training assistance, help desk software, defects.
- Communications between EBS (finance and human resources) cross functional and operational counterparts, when needed.
- Assist Office of the Controller and University Procurement and Logistics operations teams with functional aspects related to KFS including but not limited to:
- Identify, research, and collaborate with others to resolve finance data issues related to day-to-day operations and fiscal year end.
- Assist in developing procedures to identify and mitigate current and future issues through collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Identify and report KFS functional issues, Concur, CTC, and other CO systems. Includes making recommendations, establishing specifications, validation and testing of changes/fixes for the systems.
Projects/Initiatives Functions (35%) - tasks related to enhancements, upgrade and scope change requests:
- Complete MSU finance tasks for the FBAS team:
- Deliver enhancement elements related to finance. Identify issues pertaining to enhancement elements and provide solutions while considering various impacts.
- Develop and review system analysis and designs. Test and validate resulting system functionality.
- Responsible for finance system related testing, training assistance, enhancement items, and upgrade activities.
Other duties as assigned (10%).
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in business, management information systems, or related field.
- One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the business functional area and/or enterprise software development and/or testing.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in field that is related to systems support, including but not limited to, General Ledger, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Capital Assets, and Travel.
- Strong problem-solving techniques and data analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a strong comfort level in technology applications such as Teams, Zoom, etc due to remote capability.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; must enjoy problem solving and working in a fast paced and complex systems environment with the ability to move from big picture to details, coordinate and follow through on multiple tasks; and ability to work successfully with a variety of constituencies in an educational institution and business environment.
- Project management experience.
- Business Process Mapping experience.
- SQL or other data querying experience.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Knowledge or experience with existing MSU Business Systems including SAP Concur, Kuali Financial System, Cognos BI, Spartan Marketplace, etc.
