Position Summary
Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Medical Center; this position will primarily be working in the Internal Medicine service; receives patients; communicates with clients; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students, technicians and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience; experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software. Become licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting.

Summary of Physical Demands
Lifting of animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments. Lift animals up to 50lbs individually and up to 150lbs as a team.
