Position Summary

Duties included: 

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities required from the Health Care Representative.
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information.
  • Performs clinical office duties utilizing basic office equipment such as scanners, copy machines, and data entry through electronic medical records software.
  • Perform or update patient insurance eligibility at initial visit and ongoing as determined by Health Care policy. 
  • Facilitates patient flow by communicating with the provider, patient, and other support staff.
  • Train new Health Care Representatives, mentor students and acts as an expert subject matter for all Health Care Representatives in the front office.
  • Responsible for completing patient referrals, collecting office visit payments, and explaining financial requirements to patients.
  • Collects and participates in patient quality initiatives related to patient encounters, reimbursement, and accuracy in first-time entry.
  • Schedules and tracks patient appointments.
  • Answers clinic phone calls: answer any questions that do not violate federal or state compliance and field all questions to appropriate areas of expertise.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; a minimum of one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience working with an electronic health record in a medical office, medical clinic, or in a mental health office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-year related experience in a medical office setting.
  • Call center experience with handling a multi-line phone system preferred.
  • Experience in the use of word processing and database software, Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training.
  • Good communication skills and/or customer service experience
  • Experience in scheduling, screening, and confirming medical appointments using a computerized information system.
  • Minimum 50 wpm typing.
  • High school education; six months of related work experience in a medical setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma and 1 – 2 years of experience in customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Summary of Physical Demands

Moderate physical effort and involves eye/hand coordination, sitting or standing for long periods or viewing a CRT screen 26 - 75% of the time.

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
