Position Summary
The Kravchenko Lab is seeking a post doctoral candidate to work on research focusing on root characteristics of switchgrass plants and their contribution as drivers of processes of soil carbon sequestration in bioenergy cropping systems. The experimental component of the position will involve field soil and root sample analyses from multiple experimental sites across several states aimed at better understanding how different switchgrass varieties and genotypes contribute to soil carbon accrual. The project involves 13C plant labeling, root structure analysis, and X-ray computed micro-tomography.
Job Duties
- Analyses of root scans and measurements of soil properties.
- X-ray computed tomography scanning of soil samples and image analyses.
- Analyses of the collected data.
- Publication results in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national/international conferences.
The position is for one year with a possibility of a renewal on per annual basis contingent upon funding and/or satisfactory performance. Starting date is September 2025 or as soon as possible after that

Required Degree
Doctorate -Soil Sciences or Related
Minimum Requirements
Ph. D. in Soil Sciences
In-depth knowledge of soil science and plant-soil interactions and advanced experience with X-ray computed tomography applications in soil science.
Desired Qualifications
- A track record of publication in quality peer-review journals
- Demonstrated creativity, independence, and excellent communication skills, both written and oral are expected
