Position Summary
Procures commodities and services of moderate complexity and administers contracts within a framework of maintaining perpetual physical inventories in accordance with University policies and procedures. Recommends, approves and monitors sources for assigned commodities and services. Investigates, recommends, approves and monitors vendor sources. Interfaces with customer base to achieve specification compliance for commodities and services. Determines new commodities and services methods for enhanced quality and customer satisfaction. Conducts analyses of commodities and services via screening panels, end-user tests, field studies, and/or plant and facility inspections. Maintains database records related assure compliance. Processes sealed bids, requests for quotation (RFQ), and requests for purchase (RFP). Maintains perpetual physical inventory of assigned commodities and services to assure timely order fills, cost controls, and compliance standards.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in business or Supply Chain Management; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in purchasing and/or inventory management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated procurement and supply chain knowledge, contract negotiation and administration skills, knowledge of warehouse and inventory control systems and processes, experience managing commodities and services in food industry, customer service driven.
