Position Summary
Join the Emmy Award-winning Spartan Vision team as an Assistant Director of Production, where you will serve as a primary producer for a brand-new men’s basketball docuseries premiering this fall. In this fast-paced and highly collaborative role, you will help shape the visual identity of Michigan State Athletics by creating impactful content across all digital platforms.
This is a high-visibility position where your creativity, technical expertise, and storytelling skills will bring to life the stories of Spartan student-athletes, programs, and traditions for a passionate and expansive audience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead producer for new men’s basketball docuseries.
- Film and edit game recaps, highlights, and student-athlete features while emphasizing strong narrative for Michigan State Athletics programs.
- Establish and uphold color standards for Spartan Vision’s post-production workflow.
- Collaborate with producers to conceptualize, shoot, write, and edit digital content across various platforms.
- Fulfill footage requests from media partners, internal departments, and external outlets.
- Deliver high-quality content under tight deadlines—often on the same day as events.
- Ensure brand consistency across all produced content.
- Travel as needed for team coverage and production requirements, including other sports such as football and hockey.
- Maintain and care for video production equipment.
- Organize, label, and archive footage according to unit standards.
- Stay informed about emerging trends in digital media and sports content.
- Mentor and support student employees engaged in post-production roles.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Television Production or Telecommunications; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in studio and remote television production, editing and the use of related television equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Highly motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in digital media, film production, or a related field
- Strong cinematic shooting and visual storytelling abilities
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition) and Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with project management tools
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience producing video content for an athletic department, team, agency, or media brand
- Skilled in color correction/grading, with knowledge of various frame rates and file formats
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, perform under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
- Strong team player who works well with a variety of stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in PC environments
- Experience with Sony camera systems
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- On-site position (not remote)
- Experience producing long-form documentary content
- FAA Part 107 drone license
- Familiarity with 360/VR video production
