Associate Director for Clinical Skills Education & Simulation

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Simulation, the Associate Director for Clinical Skills Education & Simulation has responsibility for development, alignment, and implementation of clinical skills learning activities as a part of the Shared Discovery Curriculum.   

Job Responsibilities 

50% Curriculum Development 

  • Collaborate with CHM faculty to create developmentally-sequenced clinical skills education for medical students, with a particular focus on years 1 & 2 of medical school 

  • Collaborate with CHM curricular leaders, including clinical experience leaders, course directors, clerkship directors, and assessment leaders, to ensure clinical skills education is aligned and integrated into the broader medical student curriculum 

10% Program Evaluation & Medical Education Scholarship 

  • Engage in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement around the clinical skills educational program  

  • Collaborate with other faculty to engage in scholarship around medical education and clinical skills education 

20% Teaching Medical Students  

  • Provide instruction to medical students on core clinical skills areas, including history-taking, physical exam, clinical reasoning, communication of findings, and patient education and counseling. 

10% Faculty Development and Mentorship 

  • Provide mentorship and support to faculty and staff involved in the design, implementation, and facilitation of clinical skills education  

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by providing ongoing feedback and evaluation to faculty and healthcare professionals involved in simulation-based teaching and training.  

10% Team Leadership and Collaboration  

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals, standardized patient educators, support staff, standardized patients, and faculty to ensure effective delivery of clinical skills learning experiences in the simulation centers 

  • Provide local supervision and feedback to members of the multidisciplinary team  

 

This position is based in Grand Rapids with occasional travel between campuses and the possibility of being located in East Lansing .  Early, evening or weekend hours may be require to meet project deadlines, proctor exams, and support college events.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have an MD, DO, or equivalent advanced degree in a healthcare-related field; current licensure appropriate to their field; experience in curriculum development; and teaching experience with multiple modalities, including clinical skills and clinical simulation.   

Desired Qualifications

We desire a candidate with experience including assessment or program evaluation; a demonstrated collaborative approach; experience with faculty development design or implementation; and experience with fiscal stewardship and supervision of faculty and staff.  Academic department and rank will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.
