Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Michigan State University invites applications for a full-time research assistant focused on prenatal and child health. This position is in support of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) project through the National Institute of Health. The mission of this longitudinal study is to provide real-time data from pregnancy to analyze with later child health outcomes. 

The successful candidate will ad minister participant surveys, in-person assessments, collect biospecimens, obtain informed consent, coordinate participant incentives, and perform other administrative tasks as needed. A successful candidate would be detail oriented and have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills.  


This position will be hybrid between our Detroit and Flint clinic sites, with at least 6 meetings per year at our East Lansing site.  Current funding will secure this role through at least May 31, 2026, with additional funding likely. 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a health, medical, or scientific field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in Public Health and specimen Processing; Requires software knowledge in REDCap, Excel and Outlook; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires licensing and certification from CITI, NIH Toolbox and NIH ECHO.

Desired Qualifications

A high level of problem-solving and communication skills; able to relate and provide support to participants. Experience and expertise working with research and consenting participants; experience working in urban communities, primarily within research; experience with medical terminology; knowledge of data confidentiality; skills working with different database systems, including REDCap; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Hours

M-F 8:00-5 May require some weekend and evening times based on research participant availability.

This is an off-dated position funded from date of hire through 5/31/2026, with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
