Position Summary

The Identity & Access Management (IAM) Solution Architect will serve as an integral member of the MSU IT Enterprise Services team, which delivers core technology services that support the university’s mission. Enterprise Services provides secure and scalable infrastructure, application hosting, integration platforms, and enterprise-level security solutions to ensure reliable operations across MSU. Within this framework, the Identity Management team focuses on safeguarding digital identities, managing authentication and authorization processes, and enabling secure access to university resources. The IAM Solution Architect collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to design, develop, and implement identity and access solutions that align with organizational goals and maintain consistent oversight of IAM functions throughout the institution.

Key responsibilities include:

- Designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting moderately to highly complex computer systems with emphasis on application security and proactive maintenance.
- Collaborating across teams to determine technology needs and integration solutions for projects of medium to high complexity, including interface design, business functions, and database design.
- Leading project and operations management tasks including documentation, status reports, timelines, and presenting improvement proposals.
- Supporting a culture of continuous improvement through peer review, training, cross-training, and professional development.
- Participating in a 24/7 support rotation for critical system outages.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; and five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed, including experience in system administration, systems integration, and identity & access management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with IAM standards and systems such as SAML, LDAP, Shibboleth, Okta, and SailPoint IdentityIQ.
- Experience with software development and operations best practices, project management, system integration, architecture, and business/technical analysis.
