Position Summary
This is a generalist position that provides comprehensive mental health services both in-person and telehealth to a diverse student population and will do so with an awareness that the primary purpose of this embedded position is to support the College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Nursing Program students, including graduate students. The Embedded Social Worker will report directly to and be considered part of the staff of University Health and Wellbeing - Counseling and Psychiatric Services. Duties include performing comprehensive psycho-social evaluations and providing individual/group counseling in order to treat the mental health concerns of clients within CVM; aid victims in emotional distress and treat mental health adjustment/substance abuse problems; preparing intake and treatment notes and reports to track patient care; conducting presentations and workshops to educate clients, parents, University staff, health care professionals and the community regarding developmental and treatment issues; consulting with clients and staff to assess the need for additional services and refers to campus/community referral sources when appropriate; establishing and coordinating didactic/support groups around designated issues to assist and support clients; acting as a patient advocate with various service providers; participating as a team member and/or liaison in staff meetings, committees, conferences and organizational meetings; attending professional conferences, workshops and continuing education programs.
Minimum Requirements
The job requires:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
- Current State of Michigan Social Work license (LMSW) in good standing OR a current Limited License (LLMSW) in good standing with capability of being fully licensed within 3 years. Limited license holders must be supervised by a fully licensed Social Work (LMSW) until fully licensed.
- Compliance with Michigan state continuing education requirements to maintain licensure.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of graduate study beyond a Bachelor's degree, such as a Masters in Social Work; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; and State certification as a Social Worker.
License eligible in Michigan within 18 months of hire; MSW or Master's in Counseling (LPC); experience in interdisciplinary setting with diverse college students population from a multicultural/intercultural perspective.
