Family Engagement Coordinator

Position Summary

  • Leverage existing relationships with school districts, ISDs and RESAs, and teachers within the station viewing area to promote the use of the Michigan Learning Channel. 
  • Provide Michigan Learning Channel and PBS resources to teachers and families to optimize their use of the service. 
  • Coordinate, compose, edit, and execute electronic and print communications to families and educators within the station’s viewing area about Michigan Learning Channel programming, digital resources, special events, and trainings. 
  • Collect testimonials and best practices on how educators are using the channel.
  • Propose and plan special events and trainings to improve usage of the Michigan Learning Channel, keeping in mind current safety protocols understanding that these events and trainings may be virtual.
  • Suggest to the Director of Education opportunities to build out new content areas that are important to educators at various grade levels and subject areas. 
  • Distribute, through communication methods, programming schedules for the Michigan Learning Channel to local teachers in advance so they can plan their lessons around the programming.
  • Coordinate, plan and align promotional campaigns with the school calendar, locally important events, as well as opportunities tied to specialized audiences. Regional travel may be required.
  • Compose, edit and execute on-air messaging, social media, and other platforms to improve communication among teachers and administrators statewide.
  • Enter engagement activities and statistics into a CRM system provided by the Michigan Learning Channel.
  • Participate in scheduled trainings and consultations with the Michigan Learning Channel staff, may be virtual.
  • Compose, edit, and create promotional materials and marketing strategies 
  • Support and train teaching staff on ways to integrate Michigan Learning Channel into curriculum using ‘train the trainer’ model, may be virtual.

This position has opportunity for a hybrid working schedule. Remote work agreements are continuously reviewed based on the needs of the organization.

This is an off dated position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired in a four year college degree in Education, Communications or in an area related to the work being performed; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible and expansive work experience in a field related to the position including education, customer service, training, planning and managing special events; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and/or presentation software. Position may require software specific to the operational activities of the employing unit. This position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as a customer service representative or professional development trainer 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom preferred 
  • Experience as a classroom teacher 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Experience working with the educational community
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively 
  • Excellent organizational ability with strong attention to details  
  • Excellent follow up skills  
  • Excellent proposal writing skills 
  • Comfortable in a virtual environment to provide trainings and resource support workshops 
  • Ability to interact and work in a team environment, virtually in in-person
