Position Summary
Pay rate: $22.44 - $24.93 upon meeting probationary period requirements. Regular, in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.
This position will perform a wide variety of logistical support duties, including but not limited to the following: Move commercial office furniture and equipment both within and between buildings, disassembling and reassembling as necessary. Set up and take down equipment for athletic events, livestock shows, conferences, dances, lectures, concerts, and other special events. Set up and take down staging, displays, bleacher seats, stalls, tables, and rigid and folding chairs. Operate university motor vehicles such as forklifts, vans, tandem trailers, tractors, and trucks, transporting furniture, equipment, and display material both on and off campus. May lead other employees engaged in moving office furniture and equipment and setting up and taking down staging, seating, and equipment for spectator events.
The breakdown of job responsibilities are as follows:
60%: Move, set up, install, deliver, assemble, disassemble, and reassemble commercial office furniture, tables, chairs, shelving, signs, staging, displays, bleachers, classroom furniture, pictures, softener salt, other various materials, and equipment. Use common hand tools, operate moving carts, and logistical equipment.
15%: Lead other employees engaged in Set Up activities. Instruct assigned support employees in work methods and techniques. Provide assistance to clients during events. Use extreme caution and care when handling University property. Communicate with campus customers regarding job details. Responds or informs supervisory staff of complaints, comments and/or unmet service needs.
15%: Load, secure, and transport furniture, supplies, materials, tools, and equipment using a University vehicle. Operation and maintenance of University vehicles. Maintain building entrances by performing such duties as sanding, salting, sweeping, and shoveling snow. Operate fork lift.
10%: Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.

Minimum Requirements
- Completion of high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary; working knowledge and skill in the operation of forklifts, dollies, and other material handling equipment is necessary; demonstrated ability to read and interpret furniture blueprints, instructions and manuals; working knowledge and ability of using common hand tools associated with furniture installation; possession or attainment of an MSU Forklift Operator's permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period; one-year satisfactory work experience as a Laborer III or an equivalent combination of training and experience in set up work is necessary; possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license(s) is necessary; must drive a University vehicle and meet MSU standards for safe driving; steady lifting of over 75 pounds is required; ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
Desired Qualifications
Two years year experience in furniture assembly or moving company. Two years experience in loading, unloading, and transporting materials, tools, equipment and furniture.
A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.
