Position Summary
The Johnston Lab in the Department of Pathobiology & Diagnostic Investigation at Michigan State University has an opening for a 1-year Research Assistant II. The position starts in Spring 2025 and may be renewed for a second year, based on performance. The Johnston Lab studies lipid metabolism in hepatocellular carcinoma.
The Research Assistant II will contribute to data collection, processing, visualization, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of results. The candidate will help with laboratory maintenance and ordering. The candidate will be involved in preparing conference presentations and writing scholarly manuscripts.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biomedical science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments using basic molecular techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
-Doctorate Biomedical Science
-Research experience including but not limited to protein, RNA, and DNA extraction; real-time PCR; immunoblot; cell-function assays; ELISA; immunofluorescence staining and microscopy.
-Ability to assist with laboratory and research project management, which consists of inventory maintenance, supply purchases, equipment maintenance, and appropriate budgeting of research funds.
-Excellent written communication skills.

Required to be capable of lifting 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), sit, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, crawling, twisting, squatting, sitting, and/or bending.
Summary of Health Risks
Exposure to biologic materials. RA will work with human cancer cell lines.
