Position Summary

The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University (https://education.msu.edu/kin) invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position at the instructor or assistant-professor rank in athletic training/sports medicine. We seek an exceptional candidate who will demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students, and actively engage in activities required to maintain CAATE accreditation of our Master’s of Athletic Training program. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through their teaching and mentoring are highly valued. This is a 9-month appointment, with a start date of August 16, 2025.

  • Teach across all modes and levels: Deliver high-quality instruction in various formats and at all levels, focusing particularly on the professional Master’s of Athletic Training program.
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor students: Actively engage in the recruitment, advising, and mentorship of professional Master’s of Athletic Training students.
  • Maintain CAATE accreditation: Perform necessary activities to uphold the department’s CAATE accreditation.
  • Provide service: Contribute service efforts relevant to the department, college, university, profession, and broader community.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or equivalent program

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree (Instructor rank)
  • Doctorate (Assistant Professor rank)

Ability to obtain athletic training licensure in the state of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience teaching in a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program. Experience in CAATE accreditation practices and policies. Evidence of effective graduate student mentoring.  Strong clinical practice experience. Evidence of initiative in cultivating an equitable and diverse scholarly and instructional environment. We strongly encourage applications from scholars with varied backgrounds and perspectives, as they will enrich the landscape of our research, teaching, and service.

  4. Professional References: Provide contact information for three individuals who have agreed to serve as professional references. These individuals should be able to attest to your professional integrity and collegiality. Written letters of recommendation will be requested for candidates invited for interviews.

Department Statement

The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University is one of the oldest in the United States, first established as the Department of Physical Culture in 1899. Today, kinesiology is one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus, with approximately 1,500 students. Our graduate programs total approximately 120 students, and our doctoral program in Kinesiology is presently ranked #11 in the US in the evaluation of doctoral programs conducted by the National Academy of Kinesiology. All major areas of kinesiology are represented, including exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, motor control and learning, biomechanics, and athletic training.
