Position Summary

Advance and coordinate the technical activities of students, contract union stagehands, assigned support staff, and touring company stage crews to produce Breslin Center events, including MSU Men's and Women's basketball, MSU Volleyball, and MSU Commencements; work closely with MSU Athletics and other MSU departments to ensure all Breslin Center events are seamless; advise and assist the load-in, set up and load-out for all Breslin events; serve as stage manager during production activities; design and execute stage lighting plans for Breslin Center; operate, troubleshoot, service and maintain the sound reinforcement system, lighting systems, electronic, electrical, fly rail and other related technical equipment at Breslin Center; coordinate, advise, interpret and evaluate various needs of facility users; oversee and/or operate sound systems for MSU athletic events, scheduled programs, provide back-up and trouble- shooting expertise; provide CAD services for events, handbooks and manuals; assist in training assigned support staff in stage hand practices and proper use of facility equipment; assist with overseeing all components of the lighting and sound system in partnership with Athletics and contracted vendors; perform building and technical equipment maintenance as directed; coordinate and submit appropriate paperwork, forms and schedules with various MSU departments as needed for smooth operations of the Breslin Center.  

Minimum Requirements

An Associate's degree related to the area of theatrical production, theatrical design or theatrical production; one to five years' experience in theatre management and theatre technology including, but not limited to stage set, lighting and sound design and execution, electrical distribution systems, film projection, programming and basic troubleshooting of computerized audio and lighting systems, concert rigging, CAD, spreadsheet and word processing programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to direct, and work with artists, stage crews, and contract employees is necessary. 

Desired Qualifications

Extensive experience with CAD; experience as a Stage Manager for athletic events.

Work Hours

Working hours are variable based on Breslin Center events and business needs. Hours include frequent evenings, weekends, and holidays.
