Position Summary

Michigan State University and Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative (https://msuhurleypphi.org/), under the direction of Dr. Mona Hanna, seeks to hire a Marketing & Communications Director to work on the Rx Kids team.

Rx Kids (rxkids.org) is an unconditional maternal and infant cash prescription program that launched in Flint, Michigan. Starting in 2025, Rx Kids is expanding to multiple cities in Michigan. This public health intervention aims to eliminate infant poverty and evaluate the health impact of expanding Rx Kids as the new social contract for how society should take care of families.

The Marketing & Communications Director will work with many partners and a growing team to support the planning, development, execution and personnel of all promotional and communications functions including brand management, marketing, public/media relations, social media, event support and management, and online activities. In concert with Rx Kids leadership, the Rx Kids Marketing & Communications Director will be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of Rx Kids marketing and communications which includes, but is not limited to:

Develops and implements Rx Kids communication policies, procedures and administrative guidelines. • Conceptualizes marketing materials and writes and/or edits as needed to support development of materials in all media. • Develops and implements project plans and timelines, and coordination of activities such as web enhancements, promotional emails, online ads, web and social media content, and videos. • Analyzes and identifies external communication needs of Rx Kids to meet those needs in the most effective way within budget and logistical parameters. • Coordinates content development for Rx Kids communication materials, working with designers, writers, Web specialists, and other creative team members. Directs public/media relations activities which include but are not limited to overseeing writing, editing and publication of press releases, newsletters, specialized communications and features, and select special events. Advises Rx Kids leadership on media communication issues and creates and implements projects in response to their priorities. • Meets with and coordinates media to discuss Rx Kids stories, events, or initiatives. • Develops, implements, and evolves integrated marketing and social media strategies for Rx Kids. • Develops and manages online marketing and e-communications strategies and campaigns including assessing web and social media content needs and opportunities, and assisting with the writing and editing content for all online platforms. • Develops and maintains relationships with Rx Kids communities and partners. • Responds to Rx Kids communities’ questions and requests involving communications • Works together with Rx Kids communities to implement Rx Kids communication plans in each community • Attends meetings with Rx Kids communities as needed; this may require travel in Michigan. • Participates in Rx Kids strategic planning initiatives with Rx Kids leadership. • Directs and coordinates the activities of the Rx Kids communications team and volunteers • Other project activities to support work, as applicable

The successful candidate will possess strong strategic communication skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and a proven track record of leading successful marketing and communication campaigns. This is a full-time, 12-month end-dated position located in Flint, MI. Statewide travel to Rx Kids communities may be required.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the administration and development of marketing and communications strategies and programs; experience related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Eight or more years of related experience as a communications and marketing professional with demonstrated success; exceptional oral and written communication; able to work independently in an organized and efficient manner; pays attention to detail; self-starter; highly self-motivated; adept at working in large, interdisciplinary teams; able to manage multiple complex tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment; high sense of responsibility and honesty; experience working with underserved families from culturally and economically diverse populations; understanding the history, systemic inequities; and demonstrates the values consistent with PPHI: Respect, Teamwork, Diversity, Equity, Kindness, Integrity, Humility, Inclusion, Community, Optimism.
