Position Summary
Support, facilitate and coordinate daily research activities in service of the Great Lakes Biochar Network, and related forestry social science projects in Emily Silver's research program, as follows:
Coordinate Research (45%)
- Coordinate activities to help ensure research and related activities are performed in accordance with federal regulations and university and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of any technical support staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students specifically engaged in the carrying out of research/clinical protocol, as appropriate to the position; may perform aspects of research protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives.
- Collaborate with research officials to assist in preparing a categorized budget and justification. Confirm accuracy and completeness of budgeted costs.
- Plan, implement, and maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol; may coordinate the collection and analysis of research data.
- Assist in development of materials and tools necessary to appropriately train individuals involved in the conduct of the study around issues related to (but not limited to) protocol requirements, schedule of visits, and execution of research plan. Maintain documentation of training.
- Develop and maintain records of research activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
- Develop, write and edit scientific documents and reports for research teams, committees, and federal and state agencies.
- Assist in information gathering, knowledge management, and compliance activities.
Outreach and Extension (45%)
- Assist with preparation for events, workshops, and projects for network.
- Plan and coordinates regular advisory board and steering committee meetings; attend and participate in all assigned research meetings; prepare notes and provide support during meetings.
- Assemble materials for train-the-trainer events
Administrative tasks (10%)
- Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; act as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for other research organizations, funding agencies, and regulating bodies.
- Cooperate with university compliance and monitoring efforts related to sponsored program administration and reports instances of noncompliance to the appropriate compliance office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Forestry; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports, supervision, software, data interpretation and handling in forestry-related social science or similar discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; valid driver's license at the time of hire required for carrying out stakeholder surveys and data collection; social media and website building experience is required.
