Position Summary

The Weiming Lab in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife seeks a postdoctoral research associate to join our research efforts on the technical feasibility of genetic control of sea lamprey. The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary group focused on identifying target genes and developing genetic techniques suitable for sea lamprey control. We are searching for a colleague to support these efforts through modelling of potential population outcomes associated with genes and techniques of interest. The selected applicant is also expected to formulate and test using simulations new research questions related to population outcomes of potential genetic control within the context of sea lamprey’s complex life cycle, population structures, and ongoing control measures in the Great Lakes. The selected applicant is expected to participate in research discussions and manuscript/report writing with both leading and supporting roles.

Required Degree

Doctorate -computational biology or a related area

Minimum Requirements

  • Expertise in population modeling, genetic control, evolutionary biology, or related topics
  • Interest/experience in collaborating researchers from diverse disciplines and academic backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
