Position Summary
Institutional Space Planning and Management (ISPM) in the Office of the Provost is seeking a Facilities Coordinator for its Interdisciplinary Research buildings on the East Lansing Campus. The ideal candidate is independently motivated, with expertise in facilities management, health and safety standards, and excellent relationship building skills.
The Facilities Coordinator manages and oversees building operations and services for assigned interdisciplinary research university buildings with specialized facility coordination needs. The Facilities Coordinator works as part of a facilities team within ISPM. The ISPM Facilities team is integral to ensuring research activity in these buildings is supported by maintaining consistent building operation; anticipating and coordinating plans for resolution of space and facility needs; developing relationships with building occupants, university support unit partners, and vendors; and ensuring that ISPM and University policies and procedures are implemented and followed.
Duties include:
5% - Assists in planning, implementing, and monitoring the annual building operating budget; Assists in budget development, prepares financial projections, and monitors expenditure of funds associated with the building operations.
35% - Serves as liaison with building occupants, University departments, support units and vendors to coordinate and facilitate the building operations; communicates with the occupants to resolve problems, update procedures.
20% - Coordinates the repair and maintenance of shared and fixed building equipment with appropriate University units, vendors and contractors; forecasts building needs, short- and long term; and orders and maintains shared building supplies, equipment, and maintenance contracts.
15% - Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures to support the building operations
15% - Assists with space planning and management, including periodic review and reporting of space assignments and utilization; and prepares special and periodic reports and planning documents as required.
10% - Maintains health and safety standards to ensure compliance with University, State, and Federal rules and regulations, in coordination with relevant University units.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Facilities Management, Business Management, or Science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in facilities and building operations management, including building management systems; experience with financial management including budgeting and accounting; experience in managing scientific laboratories and buildings or a facility related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
