Position Summary
Research Assistant III to oversee, facilitate and focus primarily on the research and development of diagnostic tests for the VDL's Clinical Pathology lab section. There will be an emphasis on developing and validating new assays utilizing flow cytometry and supporting clinical pathologists and their residents in performing research, analyzing data, and producing documentation for presentations, reports, and scientific papers in support of test development. This position requires understanding of both scientific and clinical applications of testing. This position will also provide technical support for the current tests including operation and maintenance of complex instruments while analyzing test data for diagnostic quality and instrument performance. An in-depth understanding of quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) is required to adequately perform testing duties. This position actively participates in laboratory audits, review of standard operating procedures, team problem solving, and personnel training.
The percentage breakdown of position duties is as follows:
25% - Test - Benchwork (proficiency in Clinical Pathology laboratory testing)
45% - Assay Development - Development of Special Projects and Method Improvement
15% - Quality Assurance - Document Review and Maintenance (SOP's, chemical and maintenance checklists, audits, and corrective actions)
8% - Client Interactions - Consultation on Clinical Pathology laboratory services and testing capabilities
7% - Project Management-plan and coordinate research activities utilizing laboratory analyzers and personnel.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work in Medical Technology Sciences, such as a Master's in the specific field of research employment, Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies including QA/QC, writing reports, software, data interpretation and handling in an Clinical Pathology laboratory or high volume diagnostic laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Flow Cytometry knowledge and experience performing experiments.
