This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
Lab Technician - Kellogg Biological Station (Hickory Corners, MI)
This is a Temporary/Seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week. The primary role of this position is to assist Dr. Nick Haddad’s lab with the collection and processing of data from the KBS Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site.
The position will assist with laboratory work including, but not necessarily limited to: sorting and identifying insect specimens with use of a microscope, preserving insects for specimen collections, data management, and assisting with various research activities within or connected to Haddad lab projects.
Dr. Haddad’s research centers around the conservation of biodiversity with emphasis on insects. Many of the projects in this lab focus on strategies to mitigate the effects of habitat loss and landscape homogeneity, such as creating landscape corridors to connect habitat patches or reintroducing native plants to agricultural systems to increase biodiversity and promote ecosystem services. Desired Qualifications
This position requires a B.S. degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related field. Experience using a light microscope and identifying Michigan ants strongly preferred. Candidates must be punctual, organized, motivated, and able to work independently as necessary. Must be prepared to use a microscope several hours per day and be comfortable handling ethanol (personal protective equipment provided).
