Position Summary
The position is an academic specialist and laboratory manager and expected to have a PhD degree and at least three years of work experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory. This position is an end dated position of 2 years after the hire date, contingent upon funding.
· Collaborate with MSU researchers to support and develop research proposals that require analysis of organic contaminants e.g., PFAS. This will involve establishment of various certified EPA methods and the development and validation of specialized analytical methods incorporated in the proposals.
· Assist with vision, planning, and a sound business plan that will provide optimal support for PFAS-related research by investigators at MSU and their collaborators.
· Manage all aspects of the Analytical Laboratory’s daily operations including maintaining records of sample disposition, supervising laboratory personnel, assigning workloads, monitoring performance and progress, and contributing to and approving analytical results reports.
· Train MSU graduate students and postdoctoral associates in sample preparation and analysis following good laboratory practice.
· Operate and maintain analytical instruments to ensure efficient and rigorous sample analysis.
· Establish and maintain QA/QC and SOPs needed to support investigators at MSU and their collaborators.
· Conduct routine instrument maintenance, interact with instrument company service engineers for troubleshooting and service, and convey instrument capabilities and status to interested researchers at MSU.
· Generate laboratory revenue through research activities with MSU researchers and their collaborators. · Contribute to MSU PFAS-related research efforts through contributions to activities of the MSU Center for PFAS Research, outreach, and other activities.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Analytical Chemistry/Envrionmental Chem/Biochem/Related Field
Minimum Requirements
PhD in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, biogeochemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry, soil and water chemistry. 3-5 years of experience in trace-level analysis of persistent organic contaminants, pesticides, per-and polyfluoroarkyl substances and pharmaceuticals.
