Position Summary
The Kim Lab in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Michigan State University is seeking a highly motivated research technician to support projects in bacterial protein biochemistry.
The successful candidate will perform experiments focused on protein expression and purification from E. coli and H. pylori. Responsibilities include molecular cloning, largescale protein expression, purification, and sample preparation for cryo-EM, in support of several ongoing research projects in the lab.
Duties include:
*General lab duties: perform experiments following the established lab protocols to generate data. This includes maintaining E. coli and H. pylori cell culture, molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, bacterial growth assay, and cryo-EM sample preparation.
*Data recording and sharing: maintain detailed and organized electronic records of all data generated from experiments; participate in group meetings and present results or data summaries to the PI or the group as needed.
Minimum required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field, with at least 6 months of research laboratory experience. Experience with bacterial cell culture is essential/required. Prior experience working with H. pylori is highly preferred.
The appointment for this position is set to conclude one year from date of hire, with the possibility of extension based upon departmental needs and available funding.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in biochemistry, molecular biology, or microbiology of research employment; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in bacterial cell culture; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience working with H. pylori is highly preferred.
Experience with bacterial cell culture is essential/required.
