Position Summary

The Li Lab in the Department of Plant Biology is recruiting a Research Technician II to support ongoing projects in plant biochemistry/molecular biology. This position will play a central role in developing, optimizing, and executing biochemical assays, analytical workflows, and experimental protocols to study plant metabolites, enzymes, and cellular processes. The ideal candidate has substantial laboratory experience, is comfortable operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation, an d can work independently while collaborating with students, postdocs, and faculty. The technician will also contribute to method development, data analysis, and troubleshooting, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results across multiple projects. Responsibilities include maintaining lab chemical and consumable inventory, managing laboratory equipment, training junior lab members on protocols, assisting with statistical and experimental design, and advancing research projects. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment such as Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques specific to the area of research employment such as: Tissue Culture, Analytical Research, Molecular Biology, Agriculture, Social Science, Physiology, Medical Research, laboratory experience, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment, Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments independently, Experience in documenting and standardizing laboratory protocols (SOPs); word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with biochemical and analytical instrumentation (e.g., NMR, LC-MS, spectrophotometer, microscope, centrifuge).

  • Prior experience with statistical process control or design of experiments.

  • Ability to train and mentor junior lab members.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with safety procedures and laboratory compliance requirements. Proficiency in plant tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Experience managing chemical and consumable inventory.

  • Proficiency with data analysis software such as R, JMP, and Excel.

  • Experience with Linux shell preferred.
