Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

In alignment with the mission, programs and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support and coordination of MSU Extension programs.

Position Summary:

This part-time support staff will assist the 4-H program coordinator in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the 4-H programs in Barry County. The role supports efforts to recruit and train volunteers, engage youth participants, promote 4-H activities, and strengthen community partnerships. This position requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and a passion for youth development and community engagement.

 

Program Support:

  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of 4-H programs and events, including in-school, after-school, and special interest programs.
  • Support efforts to promote 4-H through social media, newsletters, and community outreach. 
  • Help prepare materials and resources for workshops, meetings, and activities.

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Provide administrative support for the recruitment ,training, and coordination of volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and compliance.

Youth Engagement:

  • Support efforts to recruit and engage youth in 4-H programs, particularly in underserved communities.
  • Assist in organizing and managing youth groups ,clubs, and events.
  • Provide logistical support for direct programming with youth as needed.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain program records, including attendance, evaluations, and financial documentation.
  • Assist in preparing reports, including annual plans and program updates.
  • Coordinate communication with volunteers, youth participants, and community partners.

Community Engagement:

  • Help build and maintain partnerships with schools, community groups, and other local organizations to expand program reach.
  • Represent 4-H and MSU Extension at community events and meetings as needed.
     

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Volunteer management and experience supervising volunteers or others.
  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences.
  •  Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to audiences/communities representative of the communities we serve, and proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.
  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
