Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

WKAR News is seeking a freelance Multi-Platform Editor/Producer who is a true newshound with a passion for impactful journalism. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to accuracy, and skilled at writing for both broadcast and digital platforms. This person will work closely with the News Director to edit and approve both broadcast and digital content, guide newsroom work across platforms, and help develop and produce a new subscriber newsletter, including its voice, style, and editorial direction.
 
Key Responsibilities Include:
Edit and approve all broadcast and digital content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and editorial consistency.
Assist in launching and producing a new newsletter, including crafting headlines, writing copy, and developing a distinct and engaging editorial voice.
Support, guide, and review work from multiple reporters, maintaining high editorial standards.
Write and edit scripts for broadcast stories and digital features in alignment with WKAR’s mission and style.
Use sound news judgment to identify, shape, and enhance enterprise stories across Mid-Michigan.
Ensure all content adheres to AP style and WKAR’s editorial guidelines.
Work efficiently in a remote environment while staying knowledgeable about developments in the Lansing–Jackson region.
