Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides support in one or more skilled trades areas such as a bindery machine operator, carpenter, electrician, glazier, instrument maker, locksmith, mason, mechanic, machinist, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, printing press operator, roofer, trades helper, upholsterer, welder, etc. Classified titles may be used where needed to track on-call/temporary staff with licensure/certification requirements. Term: Temps can work nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician will provide support to the College of Human Medicine buildings in Grand Rapids (Secchia Center, Grand Rapids Research Center, Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Building), assisting the Building Services Engineer and Operations Team in performing facilities tasks including, but not limited to; drywall repair, painting, plumbing, carpentry, hardware installations, light bulb replacement, locksmithing, equipment repair, eyewash and safety shower testing, safety equipment testing, furniture assembly and moving, interior and exterior cleaning, minor mechanical and electrical repair, and general maintenance duties as assigned. Work hours are 1st shift, i.e. 7am-3pm
Desired Qualifications
This position requires the ability to follow procedures without compromise, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and regular use of hand tools and power tools.
The ideal candidate demonstrates basic experience, knowledge or training equivalent to one year of college, technical, vocation or trade school course work in the field of maintenance or repair. The candidate should display excellent customer service, have flexibility to deal with urgent or last-minute problems as they arise, and possess an enthusiastic and committed approach with a track record of building strong, trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. This role involves the ability to comprehend and use technology to aid in the management of duties including mobile smart phone, laptop computer or tablet.
