Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

This temporary on-call position supports the evaluation of weather and smoke forecast products through systematic comparison with observational data and the analysis of field data collected from prescribed burn experiments. The incumbent will analyze meteorological and smoke dispersion forecast products, assess forecast accuracy, identify discrepancies between forecast and observed conditions, and communicate findings through written reports or verbal briefings to support ongoing forecast improvement efforts.

Work will be performed on an as-needed basis, up to 19 hours per week over a 4-month period. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage time effectively within a flexible schedule, and convey technical findings clearly to both scientific and operational audience

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree (MS) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field is required. Experience in weather and smoke data analysis and familiarity with forecast verification methods are strongly desired. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, R, or GIS software is a plus.
