Position Summary

The MSU School of Social Work, within the College of Social Science, is dedicated to educating students for ethical, competent, responsive, and innovative social work practice, and to conducting and disseminating high quality research that improves the well-being of the most vulnerable in society. Our teaching, research, and outreach synergistically promote social justice, positive change, and solutions to the problems facing broad cross section individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. More than 600 students are enrolled in our CSWE- accredited BASW and MSW programs, and our PhD program.
The School of Social Work supports MSU’s outreach mission through online and hybrid learning utilizing technology and innovative strategies to reach students across Michigan. We also provide multiple opportunities for creative interdisciplinary teaching and research, community-based studies, and partnerships with government agencies and neighborhoods.
The School of Social Work seeks candidates for 4-6 positions to teach courses in social work practice methods, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy, and research methods to teach face-to-face and online courses. Courses are offered at our East Lansing and Statewide Blended campus sites.
Primary function of this role include:
Responsibilities include revising and updating course materials, teaching courses in person and/or online, guiding and assessing student learning, holding weekly office hours, effective use the MSU class management platform D2L and University Instructor Systems, timely grading of student assessments and prompt communication with students.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Social Work
Minimum Requirements
- MSW for Instructor Ranks; Ph.D. for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor Rank by the date of employment.
- The successful candidate must also have demonstrated experience in teaching courses and/or seminars
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to effectively manage classroom discussions
- Ability to respond to student communications in a timely manner
- Experience with educational technology tools such as course management platforms, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
