Access Specialist (Temporary)

Position Summary

The Temporary Access Specialist provides time limited support to the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities by coordinating academic accommodations for students. This role assists with intake, documentation review, accommodation implementation, and collaboration with faculty, supervisors, and campus partners to ensure timely, legally compliant, and equitable access under the ADA and Section 504.

This position helps address increased service volume and maintain high quality, efficient accommodation processes during a peak operational period.  

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities 

1. Direct Services to Individuals with Disabilities  

  • Conduct intake of appointments, assess eligibility, and determine reasonable accommodations. 

  • Review disability documentation, interpret functional limitations, and implement accommodations and auxiliary aids. 

  • Facilitate full participation in academic and programmatic environments through advising, coordination, and problem-solving. 

  • Coach students in compensatory strategies and assistive technologies. 

  • Maintain accurate case notes and timely follow-up. 

  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and supervisors regarding ADA/Section 504 obligations and specific accommodation needs. 

  • Make referrals to university and community resources. 

  • Maintain updated knowledge of disability laws, best practices, and accessibility technology. 

  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and unit projects that support equitable, efficient accommodation services.

Required Degree

Masters -Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, or related field.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements 

  • Master’s degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, or related field. 

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities in educational or employment settings. 

  • Knowledge of state and federal disability law, including ADA and Section 504. 

  • Ability to interpret psychoeducational evaluations, medical documentation, and functional reports. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including case documentation. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a high-volume environment. 

  • Working knowledge of assistive technology. 

Desired Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience providing accommodations in a higher education setting. 

  • Demonstrated skill in disability documentation review and accommodation planning.
