Position Summary

The College of Human Medicine educates exemplary physicians and seeks to improve health through discovery and responding to the needs of the medically underserved in our communities. Through our competency-based Shared Discovery Curriculum, the patient is at the center of the educational enterprise. Our students are exposed to real world medicine and diverse populations that match the public health challenges faced by all physicians in the medical profession. The colleges footprint spans the state of Michigan; medical education and research take place across eight community campuses through affiliations with over 90 inpatient institutions, local hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers. Our world-class researchers push the boundaries and drive groundbreaking biomedical discoveries to advance human health. OMERAD is the longest continuously operating office of medical education in the country. OMERAD supports the Share Discovery Curriculum through consultation and collaboration with leaders, faculty members, and students for professional development, curricular design, assessment, use of artificial intelligence and technology, program evaluation, and medical education research.

Job Responsibilities

50% Assessment, Evaluation & CQI 

  • Applying advanced measurement and quantitative methods to education issues.
  • Supporting program evaluation, including logic model development, data collection, analysis, and reporting for curriculum or program effectiveness.
  • Supporting curricular Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts by analyzing data aligned with accreditation standards and student outcomes.
  • Designing and validating educational tools such as scales, instruments, assessments, and surveys to measure student learning, program outcomes, and other key educational constructs.

15% Data Visualization & Communication

  • Creating and organizing visual presentations based on data and research to effectively communicate research findings, evaluation data, or program metrics.
  • Collaborating with teams to ensure presentations are visually compelling, accurate, and aligned with messaging goals.
  • Writing and editing reports to disseminate findings within the institution and contribute to the broader academic discourse.

15% Teaching & Instruction 

  • Teaching as assigned, which may include large-group lectures, small-group facilitation, online instruction, or one-on-one mentoring.
  • Engaging in instructional design, assessment of student learning, and refinement of teaching strategies to ensure effectiveness and inclusivity.

10% Service & Administration

  • Participating in committee and administrative service.
  • Contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations, community engagement, and institutional initiatives.

10% Research & Scholarship 

  • Conducting medical education research aligned with assigned duties.

Position is planned for a recurring basis.

Required Degree

Terminal -PhD or equivalent degree in educational measurement, learning analytics, data science, quantitative psychology, or related field.

Desired Qualifications

Background in measurement and quantitative methods; Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, and/or Python); Ability to use diverse technologies to support learning, teaching, grant proposal submissions, and research; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to present complex data in clear, concise reports and presentations; Demonstrated ability to work effectively within groups of colleagues; Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills; Ability to design and implement data collection strategies, including surveys, tests, and questionnaires; Experience in health professional education; Experience in higher education research; Experience in program evaluation.
