Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

   Histology Technician. Candidate will be responsible for independently conducting quantitative histological procedures. This will include immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, Nissl stains, Congo red stains and additional methods as they are required to address the scientific questions related to the experiments. Duties will include sectioning mouse brains on a microtome, selecting sections for staining procedures, conducting the staining procedures, mounting sections onto microscope slides, collecting digitized images of the sections and quantifying the amount of staining on the sections using computer based image analysis programs. 
   Mouse Animal Technician.  Candidate will be responsible for testing mice for their capacity to perform specific mouse behavioral tasks. These include radial arm water maze, open field, novel object recognition, rotarod motor performance, elevated plus maze, acoustic startle response, marble burying and other tasks as required to the scientific questions being addressed. Animal technician duties will also involve mouse husbandry, including monitoring of mice in their home cages for general health, weighing mice, and administering drugs to mice through either injections or via medicated mouse chow. The technician will also participate in tissue collection procedures at the end of the experiments.
   Analysis of data and preparation of data figures. Results for the histological and mouse behavior experiments will require careful collection of data and analysis using spreadsheets and statistical analysis software. Additionally technician will need to produce publishable figures from these data using scientific graphing software.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters degree in biology, neuroscience or related discipline. Experience with biological laboratory techniques will be required.
