Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Michigan State University Hollander Makerspace is seeking an individual to assist with our lending technology program and support the day-to-day operations of the space. The Hollander Makerspace is an alternative learning environment and gathering space that encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration, experimentation, and learning. All students, staff, faculty, and community members can use the space for maker projects and activities. Our space encourages hands-on and social learning about new technologies and techniques.

This position will report to the head of the Creative Solutions Center to assist patrons with their lending technology needs. They will work independently to streamline and organize our lending technology procedure, update our website, and work with the Makerspace team to improve our daily processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lending Technology Management: Oversee and assist patrons with the lending technology program, ensuring users have the equipment and support needed for their projects.
  • Service desk: staffs the Makerspace Service desk, answering questions and directing patrons as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Work independently to streamline, organize, and document procedures for technology lending to increase efficiency.
  • Web Development & Maintenance: Update and improve the Makerspace website to ensure information is current and accessible.
  • Team Collaboration: Partner with the Makerspace team and the Head of the Creative Solutions Center to refine daily processes and enhance the overall user experience.

Minimum qualifications:

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience with database, spreadsheet, word processing, library automation system support, and web page design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
