Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
o Assist with field trial setup (plot layout, staking, planting, flagging)
o Support implementation of weed management treatments (hand weeding, cultivation, herbicide applications, electric/thermal tools)
o Collect research data (weed density, biomass, crop injury, canopy cover, image collection)
o Process plant and soil samples (drying, weighing, data entry)
o Assist with maintenance of research plots and equipment
o Travel to MSU research stations and commercial farms for field trials
o Support extension activities (field days, demonstrations, videos)
Desired Qualifications
o Interest in agriculture, horticulture, plant science, or related field
o Ability and willingness to perform physical work outdoors
o Ability to work in varying and adverse weather conditions
o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow research protocols
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team
o Experience with field, greenhouse, or lab research preferred
o Basic weed identification skills preferred
o Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and data entry
o Valid driver’s license required
o Experience operating tractors or farm equipment is a plus
