Position Summary

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for an assistant Professor – Fixed Term – Research to work with Dr. Felicia Wu in a variety of food safety- and nutrition-related research projects, and to manage incoming work related to the safety and nutritional enhancement of powdered foods. The anticipated assignment would be 100% research. The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2026.

 

The successful candidate must have completed a postdoctoral research fellowship, and/or have a strong publishing and advising track record as a PhD graduate. Preference will be given to those with expertise in areas that complement, contribute to, and expand existing faculty expertise and ongoing research programs in the department, college, and university. These areas include food and chemical toxicology, food and agricultural engineering, human nutrition, and mathematical modeling.

 

The successful candidate is expected to help manage Dr. Wu’s research team, including master’s and PhD students; write papers and grant proposals with Dr. Wu, in some cases leading these efforts; and manage a research portfolio related to foodborne chemicals and pathogens as well as topics in agriculture and human nutrition.

Required Degree

Doctorate -An earned PhD in food science, food engineering, nutrition, or a closely related field.

Minimum Requirements

An earned PhD in food science, food engineering, nutrition, or a closely related field; A demonstrated record of research experience in community/clinical nutrition. Applicants should have a clear record of scholarly activities in their field as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and evidence of research funding.  Applicants should have demonstrated the capability to contribute to the mission of the FSHN department. 

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in research in food science, food safety, and food engineering. Highly qualified candidates will also have post-doctoral experience and a record of funding from national and/or international agencies. Experience in developing interdisciplinary collaborations and stakeholder engagement is also desired.
