Enviroweather Field Manager

Position Summary

Enviroweather's Field Manager oversees the operational monitoring and collection of weather data from a 103-site automated mesonetwork across Michigan and Wisconsin. The East Lansing-based position coordinates and manages mesonetwork operation and development including supervision and training of student and non-student technicians and assists with project research activities and the identification, evaluation, and testing of new equipment and technologies. 

The position includes purchasing and expense management, as well as other decision-making responsibilities. Frequent internal and external communication and collaboration is necessary to effectively carry out the duties of this position, though the work is primarily carried out independently. 

Position involves extensive field work activities and travel.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in agriculture, meteorology, climatology or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques an area related to agriculture, meteorology, or climatology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Also Required: 
Professional or educational experience with measurement and or communication technology; 
Exposure to writing reports or documentation;
Exposure to Microsoft Word and Excel software; 
Effective oral and written communication skill;
Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions; 
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (45 pounds and over);
Ability to climb ladders to reach sensors on tripod;
Ability to work unsupervised in the field;
Valid drivers license.

Desired Qualifications

At least one to three years of experience working in either Agricultural or Climate Services industries. Proficient in Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Exposure to the following: Data analysis, experience in electronics/computer repair, experience in writing climate/weather-related reports.

Some management experience would be helpful, but not required.

Summary of Physical Demands

Lifts electronic components to waist high bench for testing or onto 6 ft shelves for storage. Loads vehicles with tools and supplies for field work. Carries tools and supplies from vehicle to to work site. Use ladder to install, repair, or calibrate sensors on weather station (max height 10 ft). Carry items to attic storage
