Demmer Center Equipment Coordinator

Position Summary

This position will work with the Center manager, staff, public and internal/external organizations to act as an expert regarding the safe operation of all range equipment including required maintenance, inspections, and technical repairs; implement educational, recreational, and competitive programs for archery; and help maintain archery equipment and assist with regular facility operations including archery events. This position will be required to interact with consultants, vendors, suppliers, university personnel, and customers to address various operational needs. This role also includes performing routine administrative tasks including providing outstanding customer service; communicating with vendors and staff. This position also supports the retail operations as needed.

Job responsibilities as follows: 

50%: Exercise expertise in the safe operation of all archery range equipment including required maintenance, proper inspection procedures, and technical repairs. This includes bow technician work, bow setup, and bow tuning. Research equipment from vendor resources. Test gear to make sure functioning properly to ensure optimal performance, speed, and accuracy. Customize to fit the archer and diagnose shooting issues related to the equipment. Keep records of repairs and custom setups.

30%: Assisting with coaching of S3DA (Scholastic 3D Archery) team.  Teach fundamentals of archery technique including but not limited to stance, grip, anchor point and release.  Provide directions on aiming methods and shot execution.  Provide corrective feedback and personalized coaching to the archer’s preferred preferences.  Introduce strategies and mental focus techniques.

15% Assists with retail operations as needed. Provide excellent customer service, and manage requests from customers, vendors, and staff in a professional and timely manner. Assist customers in selecting appropriate equipment. Provide guidance for beginners and experienced archers, explain maintenance practices and safe equipment use. Maintain inventory, process sales transactions and special orders.  

5%: Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development. Other related duties as assigned.

 

All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing an associate’s degree in a related recreational sports area; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in instructing others in archery or related shooting sport activities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and professional level competitive experience in the specific recreational sport. A valid vehicle operator's license is required to perform the duties of this position.

Desired Qualifications

An individual who has the passion for and knowledge of maintaining and assisting with archery and related shooting sport activities. 3 - 5 years of related experience with Demmer Center or Shooting Sports facilities operations.

A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem-solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.

Certification in a related sports area, ongoing membership(s) in professional organization(s) related to the specific recreational sport.
