Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

As an interdisciplinary academic center operating at the intersection of law, business, technology, and government, A-CAPP produces high-impact public-facing content for industry leaders, policymakers, scholars, and practitioners.

This role is on-call, providing the following time-sensitive editorial and production support in line with the Center’s editorial style guide and MSU brand standards and other guidelines as appropriate.

Editorial Support

  1. Copy edits with clear correction notes
  2. Review existing edits, suggestions, and comments on content and determine resolution
  3. Work with authors on edits and feedback
  4. Ensure final content is aligned within MSU and A-CAPP requirements

Publication Support

  1. Layout and formatting of content for production in Canva, including use of graphics, charts, and other visual elements.

Compensation will be based on experience and range from $25-$35 per hour. Work will be on an on-call basis and not to exceed 19 hours in any given week.

Desired Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a related field
  • 5+ years of professional editing, copyediting, or editorial consulting experience across multiple formats (Word, Web, PDF, Canva)
  • Strong command of grammar, usage, punctuation, and editorial conventions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and editorial judgment
  • Ability to synthesize and standardize language across interdisciplinary subject matter
  • Experience with publication workflows and template-based content systems
  • Familiarity with Canva strongly preferred

Preferred Experience:

  • Academic center, think tank, policy institute, or higher education communications experience
  • Editing content for industry and practitioner audiences
  • Familiarity with legal, business, technology, or policy writing conventions
