Your role within the team 

The Senior packaging technologist role drives subject matter expertise for the packaging function across ANZ and Asia markets. The role works as a part of a matrix of teams including supply chain, marketing, regulatory and quality to determine and validate all technical aspects of packaging. Additionally, the senior packaging technologist role will support strategic initiatives including but not limited to sustainability and value engineering. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Drive the packaging design of our NPD pipeline alongside our sourcing team and manufacturing partners. 

  • Drive the sustainable packaging transformation initiative. 

  • Work with the cross functional team on packaging solutions that best support our Product launches.  

  • Packaging lead for our strategic projects with new or complex packaging designs.  

  • Support the Quality team on packaging related quality challenges and lead implementation of recommended solutions. 

  • Lead and Organise transport trials.  

  • Support software system implementations related to packaging and help ensure data integrity for our packaging portfolio - In conjunction with our packaging project manager, implement processes and documentation to support efficient and robust ways of working. 

Desired Skills & Experience

To make sure we’re setting new starters up for success, we ask that you meet a few criteria relevant to the role to be considered for this opportunity: 

  • Minimum of 4+ years' experience in packaging development in FMCG or similar industries 

  • Developed packaging solutions for a variety of products using a variety of packaging materials, with expertise working with rigid plastics a distinct advantage.  

  • Understanding of the Stage Gate process for new product launches  

  • Strong understanding and interest in sustainable packaging solutions  

  • Experience creating detailed technical packaging briefs  

  • Experience sharing information to cross-functional teams in a meaningful format that makes technical detail easy to understand  

  • Familiar with processes such as change control and document control 

  • Understanding of APCO Guidelines and PREP tool  

  • Understanding of manufacturing environments  

  • Experience working with packaging suppliers - Experience in developing packaging solutions (both primary & secondary) across various product types
