Your role within the team
In this role, you’ll lead the technical development and optimisation of VMS and supplement products across a range of formats, helping bring commercially viable, compliant, and high-quality products to market. You’ll provide technical leadership across formulation, manufacturing, and quality, while guiding team capability and partnering closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative products at pace and with minimal risk.
Key responsibilities include:

Lead the technical development and optimisation of new and existing supplement/VMS products across multiple dosage formats including gummies, powders, capsules, tablets, liquids, soft gels, and sachets.

Provide expert guidance on ingredient compatibility, interactions, stability, bioavailability, and formulation performance.

Support troubleshooting and root cause investigations relating to product quality, stability, sensory attributes, degradation, and manufacturing performance.

Review and approve formulations, specifications, manufacturing instructions, and technical documentation.

Ensure products meet targeted claims, sensory expectations, shelf-life requirements, and cost parameters.

Manages and develops Senior and Junior Product Development Associates, setting clear expectations, building capability, and fostering a high performing, collaborative team environment.

Interpreting pre- commercial stability data and reporting on trends, providing insights and recommendations to support product quality, risk management, and informed decision-making throughout the product lifecycle.

Managing the pre-commercial stability and pilot trial budget, ensuring effective planning, tracking, and utilisation of funds.

To make sure we’re setting new starters up for success, we ask that you meet a few criteria relevant to the role to be considered for this opportunity:

Degree qualification in Food Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Nutrition, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline.

Minimum 8 years’ experience within the supplement, VMS, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or wellness industry.

Strong technical expertise in formulation development, ingredient compatibility, interactions, incompatibilities, nutrient degradation pathways, excipient functionality, bioavailability, stability, taste masking, and sensory optimisation.

Experience developing products across multiple dosage formats, with knowledge of manufacturing processes and product performance considerations across formats such as gummies, soft gels, powders, capsules, tablets, liquids, and sachets.

Proven experience partnering with contract manufacturers and internal operations teams to support scale-up, pilot trials, process optimisation, commercial production, and first production runs.

Ability to ensure formulations are manufacturable at scale, aligned to operational capabilities and constraints, and supported by robust technical risk assessments relating to manufacturing variability, process robustness, and product quality.

Strong understanding of GMP, quality systems, TGA-listed complementary medicines, FSANZ, and relevant local and international regulatory frameworks for supplements/VMS products.

Experience supporting stability study design, interpreting analytical and laboratory data, investigating out-of-specification findings, and managing product troubleshooting, technical investigations, and stability-related challenges.

Confidence reviewing technical documentation including product specifications, Certificates of Analysis, stability protocols and reports, technical data sheets, and risk assessments.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced FMCG or wellness environment, with strong leadership, people management, stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and awareness of industry trends, scientific advancements, regulatory changes, and international development or manufacturing environments.
