The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has approximately 85 full time staff members and 100 undergraduate or graduate students that work each day to support the mission of UMBC through the delivery of IT services to the campus. DoIT provides robust, secure IT environments that enable solutions for advancing the UMBC community. We do this through a staff of technology professionals that are connected both nationally and to UMBC.

Position Overview: |
The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking an IT Project Specialist for the Project Management Office (PMO). Working closely with DoIT staff and campus stakeholders, this person plays a pivotal role in driving project success for key IT initiatives. This position, reporting to the IT Project Manager, will manage IT projects related to our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, vendor-led system implementations, and other key IT initiatives.

Telework: |
A hybrid telework schedule may be available for 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities: |
This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, from DoIT teams to other campus divisions, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with UMBC’s strategic goals. You'll also leverage and enhance our project management tools and contribute to effective communication across the university.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the complete project lifecycle, from planning and execution to successful completion.
- Ensuring projects meet scope, timeline, and budget requirements.
- Developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans, risk registers, and tracking progress for both waterfall and agile projects.
- Collaborating with IT teams and campus stakeholders to triage new initiatives, complete project discovery, and ensure communication is maintained with stakeholders and project sponsors.
- Assisting in the design, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Smartsheet, UMBC’s project management tool.
- Supporting communications related to IT projects.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
Note: A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for the one year of experience requirement.

Preferred Qualifications: |

Master’s degree, preferably in a field related to Project Management or Information Technology
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or similar project management certification(s)

2-3 years of experience working in higher education, information technology or project management
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with project management methodologies, including traditional waterfall, Agile, Scrum, etc.

Understanding of ERP systems and cloud computing

Demonstrates a high commitment to quality with a high level of accuracy and dependability

Salary: |
Salary: $63,000 to $71,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
